Mr. Giscard d'Estaing will go on Monday October 29, 1979 on an official visit to Berlin. This will be the first stay of a President of the French Republic in the former German capital.

"The visit to Berlin by the President of the Republic on October 29 is the first that a President of the French Republic has made in this city since France has exercised quadripartite rights and responsibilities there. This visit is the expression of 'a responsibility, solidarity and commitment. "It shows the importance that the French government attaches to the responsibilities incumbent upon it in Berlin and its desire to remain faithful to its commitments. "It testifies to the interest, the attachment and the sympathy that France has for the city and its population. Special interest shown by the decision of the President of the Republic to pay Berlin a special visit of a whole day. "Finally, by reviewing the French troops stationed in Berlin, the President of the Republic intends to confirm France's commitment to the security of the city of Berlin, which remains one of the essential elements of the 'balance and relaxation in Europe.
