European Parliament Plenary Session, Strasbourg (France) 16 19 June 2025

On Tuesday, MEPs, Council and Commission will discuss the launch of a review of the agreement that forms the basis of EU-Israel political and economic cooperation.

Israel's compliance with human rights and democratic principles is an essential element of the country’s association agreement with EU, enshrined in Article 2 of the agreement. Reacting to Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced the launch of a review of Article 2 of the agreement on 20 May 2025. This is the first step in a procedure that could eventually lead to the suspension of the agreement.

The King of Jordan, His Majesty Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, will address MEPs during a formal sitting in Strasbourg, on Tuesday at 12:00.

This will be King Abdullah II’s sixth visit to the European Parliament, following his previous visits in 2002, 2007, 2012, 2015 and 2020. In his address, he is expected to focus on a range of issues, including the devastating war in Gaza and its consequences.

A philatelic envelope, designed by Historiaphil© (Philately Kiosk of the European Parliament, Strasbourg, France) commemorates the highlights of the Strasbourg plenary session of the European Parliament. It was produced as a continuation of the collection of philatelic envelopes bearing witness since 1949 to the history of Europe and its institutions. Its edition is limited to 100 numbered copies.
