European Parliament Plenary Session, Strasbourg (France) 06-09 October 2025

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen will deliver a speech in the European Parliament’s hemicycle in Strasbourg.

With US President Donald Trump stating that he could not rule out an American annexation of the strategically important island, Greenland has found itself at the centre of geopolitical tension between the US and Europe. While Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, both Greenlandic and Danish authorities have continuously stressed Greenland’s right to self-determination and that Greenland is “not for sale”.

Russian violations of EU airspace. On Wednesday, MEPs will debate recent Russian incursions into EU airspace and critical infrastructure, with representatives of the Danish Council Presidency and the European Commission. A resolution will be voted on by MEPs on Thursday.

Peace efforts for Gaza. Following the Gaza peace proposal presented by US President Trump on 29 September, MEPs, and Council and Commission representatives will discuss the EU’s role in supporting peace efforts for Gaza and a two-state solution on Tuesday.

A philatelic envelope, designed by Historiaphil© (Philately Kiosk of the European Parliament, Strasbourg, France) commemorates the highlights of the Strasbourg plenary session of the European Parliament. It was produced as a continuation of the collection of philatelic envelopes bearing witness since 1949 to the history of Europe and its institutions. Its edition is limited to 100 numbered copies.
