2-3.12.1989: Bush-Gorbachev Summit in Malta marking the official end of the Cold War
A few weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall begins in Malta, aboard the Soviet cruise ship SS Maxim Gorki and the American warship USS Belknap, the first summit bringing together George Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev. No document has been signed, but this summit marks the official end of the Cold War and of tensions in East-West relations. The 1989 Malta summit marked a reversal of most of the decisions taken in 1945 at the Yalta conference.
