The President of the French Republic Jacques Chirac inaugurated the first statue of General de Gaulle in Paris, on the day of the 30th anniversary of the death of the leader of Free France. Four meters high, the statue represents Charles de Gaulle in uniform, as he descended the Champs Elysées on August 26, 1944, acclaimed by the crowd of liberated Paris, for which he was for so long the soul and the voice of France.
