GB Naval Cover 1998 "Southampton April 1912, departure and sinking of the TITANIC" (TITANIC98-1)

For its 86th anniversary, the Maiden Voyage of the Titanic (April 10-15, 1912) is retraced through a collection of three historical covers.

On the night of April 14-15, 1912, the world's largest ship sank off the coast of Newfoundland after striking an iceberg. Nearly 1,500 people drowned, while more than 700 were rescued. More than any other, this maritime tragedy became a true legend: that of the "Titanic." The discovery of the wreck, followed by James Cameron's film, fueled public interest in unraveling the mysteries of the sinking. April 1998 - Beyond the various existing postage stamp issues, I had to create a series of philatelic correspondences retracing the only three stopovers of the transatlantic voyage of this "Giant of the Seas".
