45th and last mission of the French helicopter carrier "Jeanne d'Arc" December 2, 2009 – May 30, 2010

Commissioned in 1964, the helicopter carrier "Jeanne d'Arc" (National Navy, France), accompanied by the frigate "Courbet", carried out a last campaign with the officers-students of the Naval Academy, from December 2009 May 2010. "La Jeanne", which has traveled nearly 1.8 million nautical miles, or about 3.3 million kilometers (the equivalent of 79 round-the-world trips or 9 times the Earth-Moon distance) and made nearly 800 stopovers around the world, will have trained more than 6,000 officers in 45 years of active service and as many campaigns. Each counted around 800 sailors on board the two buildings (the helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc and its "conservation", which was for a long time the anti-submarine frigate Georges Leygues) including around a hundred student officers. At the end of its last campaign, the helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc returned to its base port of Brest. The procedure applied to all end-of-life ships will then be initiated. (source: SIRPA Marine)
It is to pay a last tribute to this "Ambassador of France", that The Editions Historiaphil (European Parliament Philately Kiosk, Strasbourg France) has published a collection of naval covers and historical documents commemorating the great moments of his last Around the World campaign.
