United Kingdom: the veto on the first postage stamps in tribute to Lady Diana is finally lifted, the issue will take place on February 3, 1998

The day after the death of the Princess of Wales, philatelic journalist Peter Jennings launched the idea of a stamp issue in memory of Diana. Officially, the British Posts declare themselves shocked, but in reality, they are already taking the steps for such an issue! Portraits taken by great photographers are selected and all that is missing is Buckingham's agreement to place the order.
On September 3, 1997, the five-stamp project was published in a supplement to the official post office journal and the first printings were made on September 5, with the first day of issue scheduled for September 18.
On September 15, Count Spencer, brother of the Princess, expressed his veto to this issue which he considered premature and the stamps were placed in receivership! The announcement of the news is made to the press by Buckingham who respects the decision of the Spencer family. However, Queen Elizabeth II and the Government are in favor of lifting the veto. After many twists and turns, the Post Office finally announced the issue of mourning stamps for February 3, 1998.
