Victor Hugo (1802-1885), poet, writer, playwright, and politician

Victor Hugo was born on February 26, 1802, in Besançon and died on May 22, 1885, in Paris. A poet and playwright, he left his mark on 19th-century history, not only through his literary work but also through his political discourse.

A philatelic envelope, designed by Historiaphil© (Philately Kiosk of the European Parliament, Strasbourg, France) commemorates the highlights of the Strasbourg plenary session of the European Parliament. It was produced as a continuation of the collection of philatelic envelopes bearing witness since 1949 to the history of Europe and its institutions. Its edition is limited and numbered.
