Created in 1975, the “Blue Herons” formation is the first acrobatic patrol in the world to have civilian pilots fly on military combat planes. Based at HMS HERON RNAS Yeovilton, all its pilots are from the FRADU (Fleet Requirements and Air Direction Unit) fleet and operate on four Hunter GA 11s and T8s under contract to the Royal Navy.
