REUNIFICATION OF GERMANY

One year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) is a shadow of its former self.

This is why, on July 1, 1990, the monetary union with the German Federal Republic (FRG) came into force. For salaries and rents, the one-to-one rate (one Deutsch Mark for one Ost-Mark) is applied.

On October 3, 1990, the GDR officially joined the FRG. This day will become the national holiday of Germany.

In December 1990, the first elections were organized in reunified Germany, and Helmut Kohl became Chancellor of Reunification.
