On the night of April 14-15, 1912, the world's largest ship sank off the coast of Newfoundland after striking an iceberg. Nearly 1,500 people drowned, while more than 700 were rescued. More than any other, this maritime tragedy became a true legend: that of the "Titanic." The discovery of the wreck, followed by James Cameron's film, fueled public interest in unraveling the mysteries of the sinking. More than any other, this maritime tragedy became a true legend: that of the "Titanic."
April 1998 - Beyond the various existing postage stamp issues, I had to create a series of philatelic correspondences retracing the only three stopovers of the transatlantic voyage of this "Giant of the Seas". The completion of this project was carried out with the help of my friend "Jim the Irishman" whom I thank through these lines. Jean-Luc Staedel - Historiaphil
