The French Navy Welcomes the Queen Mary 2 on a Port Call in Cherbourg (April 13-14, 2004)
Seven French Navy vessels and a Dauphin SP helicopter ensured the safety of the Queen Mary 2 during its first port call in mainland France. Upon the liner's arrival in the harbor, the escort vessels activated their pumps, and the QM2 responded to this warm welcome with three blasts of its siren. The spectacle was greeted with applause by the Cherbourg residents and tourists who came in large numbers to celebrate the event on the Quai de France. A special philatelic cancellation was issued for the occasion.
